Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about visiting this destination

Yes. It is one of the easiest and most rewarding treks in Uttarakhand, rated easy to moderate. The daily distances are short (about 4 to 6 km) and the trail is well marked, so first time trekkers with basic fitness can do it comfortably at a steady pace.

It is roughly 3.5 km from Chopta to Tungnath, and another 1.5 km from Tungnath up to the Chandrashila summit, so about 5 km each way. The trek to the summit and back usually takes around 6 to 8 hours depending on your pace and breaks.

April to June offers pleasant weather, clear skies and lush green surroundings, while September to November brings crisp air and the sharpest Himalayan views. December to March is for snow lovers, with Tungnath and Chandrashila blanketed in snow for a proper winter trek.

Tungnath sits at about 3,680 m and is the highest Shiva temple in the world. The Chandrashila summit is around 4,000 m and rewards you with a full 360 degree panorama of Himalayan giants like Nanda Devi, Trishul, Kedar Peak and Chaukhamba.

No special trekking permit is required. The route falls within the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary, so a small forest entry fee may apply at the checkpoint. Carrying a valid government issued photo ID is mandatory.

Chopta is a small, remote hamlet, so mobile network is patchy and works only in parts (BSNL and Jio are the most reliable). Accommodation is in scenic Swiss camps, which is exactly why the nights under a sky full of stars feel so special.

Quad sharing is ₹6,499, triple sharing is ₹6,999 and dual sharing is ₹7,499 per person, plus 5% GST. A booking amount of ₹2,000 per person is non-refundable, with the balance due after the induction meeting or at the boarding point.
