Common questions about visiting this destination
It is moderate to challenging. The climb from Gaurikund covers about 16 km and is steep in places, but it is manageable at a slow, steady pace. Ponies and palki services are available at Gaurikund if you would rather not walk the whole way.
Yes, Char Dham Yatra registration is compulsory. Carry your registration slip or QR code along with a valid photo ID, as it is checked at several points along the route.
May and June, and again September and October, offer the most stable weather and clearest views. The monsoon months of July and August bring a real risk of landslides and roadblocks, so most travellers avoid them.
The temple sits at about 3,583 metres in the Garhwal Himalayas. Oxygen support is carried on the trip, and the itinerary allows the group to ascend gradually so the body has time to adjust.
Network is patchy and works only in parts of the route. BSNL and Jio tend to be the most reliable, but do not expect steady signal once you are on the trail to Kedarnath.
Warm layers, sturdy trekking shoes, rain gear, personal medicines and a valid government issued ID. Nights can turn cold even in the summer months, so a good jacket is essential.
